This month's talk is on Piper Alpha by Pete Thomson.

Pete was a Coastguard Officer serving in various roles from 1986 to 2014. He was based at the Maritime Rescue Coordination Centre Aberdeen throughout that time. His talk will cover events leading up to the disaster on 6th July 1988, the incident itself and its aftermath. Pete will also discuss the search and rescue (SAR) aspects of Piper Alpha, the difficulties encountered and steps taken since then to enhance SAR response offshore. Pete will also add some personal comments on background information that is in the public domain but not widely known.
